Is this the end of Tinder and Bumble? Speed Dating makes a triumphant return to Neutral Bay!

Tired of looking for a perfect match on dating apps? Why not try courting love face to face, the old-fashioned way?

Neutral Bay Club (NBC) is hosting a Tennis Speed Dating night this Friday from 7pm for those looking for athletically like-minded lovers.

The clever idea is thanks to NBC Director of Tennis Glenn Jackson, aimed at local residents exhausted by looking online for love.

“The idea came about from clients looking to interact with other people that are interested in tennis or share a common love for getting on the court,” Glenn said.

“And you don’t have to worry about meeting someone via an app, it’s just face-to-face and a bit of fun.”

According to latest Census data, there are nearly 1.7 million single adults in Sydney, with lower north shore women significantly outnumbering men across all age groups.

The alarming statistic has set a precedent for singles to become innovative when it comes to finding a partner.

Those attending Friday’s event are asked to wear red and white tennis attire, with a welcome drink on arrival followed by two hours of on-court action and prizes for Best Dressed.

“You’ll be playing roughly for 5 to 10 minutes on the court, and then you’ll be rotating off,” Glenn said.

Karl, a keen tennis player from Neutral Bay, says he hopes to find true love on court.

“I think it’s a great opportunity to get out there and be active on a Friday afternoon and also to meet some new people, which is always a good thing,” he told Mosman Collective.

Emma, a lower north shore local and Tennis Captain at NBC, insists the event will be a relaxed space and a better alternative than dating apps.

“It’s a relaxed, fun way to meet people without the pressure of an awkward first date or other speed dating events which may feel a little unnatural,” she said.

“It’s also safer than dating apps as you get to meet first in a social environment without having to exchange personal details,” she said.

“At the end of the night, if you match with someone we will give you a card then we will be able to share your details with each other,” she said, ”but it’s got to be from both side. It’s a safe and fun environment to meet new people.”
