Rise to the Occasion: Learn to bake the perfect scone in North Sydney.

Learn how to bake the perfect scone in North Sydney – thanks to the CWA – on September 14.
By ANNA USHER
Okay, so you know those perfect, fluffy scones you get at the Sydney Royal Easter Show? The ones from the CWA stall that are still warm and just begging for jam and cream?
Well, here’s the good news – you can now learn how to make them yourself, and it’s happening just up the road in North Sydney.

The CWA’s Yvette Henderson and Lisa Maude will be hosting the special baking event.
On Sunday 14 September, the North Sydney Community Centre is hosting a Bake the Perfect Scone workshop from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, and I honestly can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
Two women who seriously know their stuff – Yvette Henderson and Lisa Maude – will be running the show. They’re both members of the Country Women’s Association (so you know their scones are the real deal) and they’ll walk you through everything: how to get the dough light and fluffy, the best way to cut them so they rise properly, and exactly how long to bake for that perfect, golden finish.

The workshop will teach you the fundamentals of making a variety of different scones, including Buttermilk and Date versions.

You’ll get to try your hand at four different scone varieties – buttermilk, pumpkin, date and lemonade – plus a savoury version for good measure. And once you’ve baked them, you’ll sit down for a proper afternoon tea and tackle the great Aussie debate: jam first, or cream?
The class is totally hands-on, so you’ll be mixing, kneading and baking alongside other locals in the Centre’s gorgeous, light-filled kitchen. And don’t worry if you’re not exactly a star baker – this workshop is for everyone, whether you’re starting from scratch or just want to up your game.

The workshop runs from 1:30pm – 4:30pm on Sunday 14 September. Cost is $180.
📅 When: Sunday 14 September, 1:30pm – 4:30pm
