North Sydney Mayor Zoe Baker has slammed the impending closure of Milsons Point Post Office as a “rat act” by Australia Post against the community.
The Ennis Rd branch will shut its doors on November 12, with Australia Post has been sealed, with Australia Post confirming the decision in a letter to Council dated August 22.

North Sydney Mayor Zoe Baker has called the closure a “dog act” by Australia Post.
The news has sparked outrage in Milsons Point and Kirribilli, where residents say the branch is more than just a place to send parcels.
Located just metres from Milsons Point station and within 300 metres of the Greenway social housing complex – home to around 400 people – the post office is relied upon daily by elderly residents, migrants with limited English, and locals without access to digital banking.
Mayor Baker said the closure would cause “significant hardship” for vulnerable residents and small businesses and accused Australia Post of failing to consult with the community.
“This is a rat act by Australia Post,” she said, “Many in Greenway do not have internet access, and for them the post office is a lifeline.”

The Milsons Point Post Office is a vital community service needed by many residents of Greenway.

“Many in Greenway do not have internet access, and for them the post office is a lifeline,” Cr Baker wrote. “Australia Post’s decision has been made without consultation and shows no consideration of the impacts on the people who need it most.”
The branch also plays a key role in supporting small businesses across the lower north shore, with many using the outlet for shipping, receiving supplies, and handling logistics.
Australia Post argues declining patronage and the availability of nearby outlets led to the decision, but locals insist the Milsons Point branch remains a thriving, essential service.

At Monday’s Council meeting, Councillors endorsed the Mayor’s Mayoral Minute, which calls on the Minister for Communications to urgently review the closure.
Council will also write to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Federal Member for Warringah Zali Steggall and the CEO of Australia Post, asking for the Post Office to remain open.
Meanwhile, community campaigner Venietta Slama-Powell has launched a petition that has already attracted more than 2000 signatures. She plans to take the campaign to Kirribilli Markets and other local events.
“This post office is indispensable,” she said. “For many residents, especially older people, it’s their only access to banking and essential services. We can’t let it close without a fight.”

Employees were formally notified of the closure at a meeting with management on 19 August.
For now, however, the countdown is on: Milsons Point Post Office is set to close for good in less than three months.
