Happy 90th birthday Luna Park! Special exhibition celebrates iconic landmark.

Luna Park at Milsons Point is celebrating 90 years.

Luna Park has turned 90, and the community is invited to celebrate the milestone at a special exhibition honouring one of Sydney’s most beloved landmarks.
Now open at Stanton Library’s Heritage Centre, Luna Park: ‘Just for Fun’ for 90 Years draws on the Library’s nationally significant collection to explore the amusement park’s remarkable history – from its glittering 1935 debut through decades of laughter, change and resilience.

The exhibition features rare artefacts, artworks and archives that trace Luna Park’s transformation from a Depression-era escape to a cherished symbol of fun and community spirit on Sydney Harbour.
North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker said the exhibition celebrates more than just a birthday.
“Luna Park has been bringing joy to Sydneysiders for nine decades. It’s a place where generations have come to laugh, celebrate and make memories. This exhibition captures that spirit beautifully, reminding us how deeply Luna Park is woven into our city’s story.”

Built on the site of the former Sydney Harbour Bridge workshops, Luna Park opened in 1935, transforming Milsons Point’s industrial waterfront into a fantastical city of light and laughter.
Despite facing challenges over the years – a tragic fire, closures and controversies – the Park endures as one of the world’s longest operating amusement parks, with many of its original features still intact.
Luna Park: ‘Just for Fun’ for 90 Years is now open at the Heritage Centre and throughout Stanton Library. The exhibition is free to visit and offers a rare glimpse into the history of this Sydney icon.
