There’s a certain Mosman fantasy that pops up every time someone starts muttering the word downsizing: fewer stairs, more lift access, a proper floorplan, and the feeling you’re moving into something with history – not a cookie-cutter box with a “completion date” two years away.

This week’s Property of the Week is that fantasy – and in a plot twist – it’s just over the Harbour Bridge.

A 1935 Art Deco building in Woollahra’s consular belt – Gowrie, at 26 Rosemont Avenue – is holding what’s being billed as a “first in, best dressed” opening this Saturday, with buyers able to inspect 10 finished, half-floor residences and see exactly what they’re getting. No renders. No “artist’s impressions”. No waiting for tradies to disappear.

The apartments are two-bedroom or three-bedroom-plus-study layouts averaging about 130sqm, priced from $2.795m up to $4.495m, with some including coveted basement parking.

Unlike buying off the plan, house hunters who turn up between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday can see exactly what they’re buying.

“It’s completely unprecedented,” Alex Pope, CEO of family-owned development company McDonald Industries told Mosman Collective.

“These are 10 half-floor residences, finished and complete.

“They’ve been rewired, replumbed, with the fire upgrade complete … the customer doesn’t need to imagine what’s on offer, they can come and inspect it on Saturday.”
