The 2025 NSW Australian of the Year is coming to Mosman – and she wants to talk about kindness.

Kath Koschel, a former elite athlete and founder of the global Kindness Factory movement, headlines the June instalment of Mosman Council’s ‘Next Wave’ talks series – a follow-up to its booked-out inaugural session on AI.

And that’s just the start.

2025 NSW Australian of the Year Kath Koschel is coming to Mosman for a talk on kindness.

Kindness is the next big idea

The event runs Wednesday, 24 June, 6 to 8pm, at Allan Border Oval Pavilion.

Koschel’s work has taken the message of kindness into workplaces, communities and lives around the world. Her appearance is a genuine drawcard.

$2 books at Barry O’Keefe Library

Barry O’Keefe Library is clearing surplus stock this month – and at $2 a title, it’s worth making room on the shelf.

Hard copy books, audiobooks, manga and magazines for children, youth and adults will all be available at the Big Library Book Sale.

The sale runs Friday 12, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June during opening hours.

Two markets, one month

The Crescent, Mosman Square and Village Green will host two markets across June.

First up: Mosman Market on Saturday 6 June, 8am to 3pm, with artisan goods, winter fashion, homewares, live music, gourmet food and hot drinks.

Then on Thursday 25 June, the WinterFeast Night Market runs from 3.30pm to 8pm, with live ice sculpting, roving entertainment and twinkling lights.

Festival of Mosman: Local businesses wanted

Local businesses are being invited to register their interest in joining Festival of Mosman: Encore, running Thursday 22 to Tuesday 27 October – an event shaping up as the biggest street party of the year.

The festival includes the SpringFeast Night Market, a two-day Street Party and the Children’s Fair.

Businesses interested in sponsorship can contact the Council’s events team on 9978 4050.

A free bus tour of the Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre is taking place on Tuesday 23 June.

Have your say at the Harbour Trust

The Harbour Trust is holding its next public meeting on Monday, 15 June from 5.30pm – 7pm.

Attend in person at its head office in Mosman or join via Zoom. Trust members will answer pre-submitted questions and take discussion from the floor.

The Trust oversees sites of national and international cultural, natural, industrial and heritage significance around Sydney Harbour.

See where your recycling actually goes

What happens to your recycling after the garbo drives away? Mosman Council has the answer – and it involves worms.

A free bus tour of the Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre on Tuesday 23 June will depart Mosman Square car park at 8.45am and returns around 3pm.

As well as a behind-the-scenes look at how recycling is processed, participants will learn the basics of worm farming – turning food scraps into nutrient-rich soil at home.
