“We’re looking for around 30,000 people across NSW to join our temporary election workforce,” NSW Electoral Commission Assistant Commissioner Andrea Summerell said.

“There are a range of paid roles available from one day to several weeks, and you don’t need previous election experience as we provide the training and support you need to do the role.

“Whether you’re looking to earn extra income, learn new skills, or connect with your community, we encourage you to think about applying.”

Our local patch is split across two state seats, and both will need staff for their voting centres on 13 March.

Early voting staff earn $32.88 an hour on weekdays, rising to $42.20 on Saturdays and $48.87 on Sundays.

Liberal MP Felicity Wilson has held the North Shore electorate since 2017. It takes in Mosman, Kirribilli and North Sydney and holds 57,488 electors, the commission’s figures show.

Liberal MP Tim James has held the Willoughby electorate since 2022. His seat covers Chatswood, Artarmon and Northbridge and holds 61,604 electors.

Election officials earn $759.28 for election day under the commission’s published 2027 pay rates, a package that includes a meal allowance and the training fee, while voting centre managers earn up to $1,361.85.

The NSW State Election will be held on 13 March 2027.

Ms Summerell said the commission wanted a workforce that reflects the communities it serves.

“We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. This includes people who speak a language in addition to English, people with disability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,” she said.

To work at the election you must be on the electoral roll, and the commission’s website states its staff “must not be members of any political party or engage in political activity”.
