Balmoral’s skate park is set for a major overhaul, and local kids are being asked to have their say in its design.

Council says the $500,000 rebuild will cater to all ages, abilities and riding styles, creating a “vibrant, inclusive destination” for residents.

The existing bowl, built in 2005, has been under-utilised for years because it was created for expert skaters. One website describes it as “characterized by aggressive transitions and a random kink”.

The redevelopment will also include upgrades to the adjacent bushland walking track, weed removal and native planting.

In a survey now open until September 22, Council is asking whether a dirt, concrete or asphalt surface is preferred and if locals would like additional spaces at the site, including spaces for live music, play equipment, parkour and climbing walls.

Skaters are also asked about their preferred riding style and if they would like to see features liken a mini bowl, mini ramp, pump track, flat bars, ledges and volcanos included in the design.

Our youngest residents are encouraged to have their say, with the survey age bracket starting at under 8 years old.

Meanwhile, high school students are invited to a free “Wear it Purple” party at the Mosman Youth Centre on Friday September 4.

The afternoon includes live music, a free barbecue, a drag performance, and a fashion show, with details and bookings available on the Mosman Events WEBSITE.
