Vivid Sydney opens on Friday May 24 and runs for 23 nights until June 15.

Vivid Sydney will light up the city from this Friday with a whole new program of events.

For 23-days, the harbour and surrounds will be transformed into a multi-disciplinary festival of lights, music, food and ideas, this year centred around the theme of “humanity”.

Here’s everything you need to know about Vivid Sydney.

This year promises stunning light installations from Haymarket to Circular Quay and the Royal Botanic Gardens.

When is Vivid Sydney?

Vivid Sydney will run from May 24 to June 15.

The light festival runs over 23 days, 7 days a week.

Where is Vivid Sydney and what’s on?

While Circular Quay serves as the epicentre of all the action, Vivid Sydney is spread across multiple locations.

You can see light installations from Haymarket and Ultimo to Darling Harbour, the CBD (Pitt Street), Barangaroo, Walsh Bay, Circular Quay and the Royal Botanical Gardens.

There are also several other events to enjoy, with Vivid Music taking place at the historic Machine Hall.

Vivid Food and a special Chef Series is a 2024 highlight of the winter festival.

Vivid Food and Chef Series will be held in a number of popular eateries, including Freds in Paddington and Carriage Works at Redfern.

How to get to Vivid Sydney

Public transport services will run to and from the festival with increased services to the city.
You are advised to head into the city before 6pm to avoid congestion and road closures.

Parking is limited. And please note you will still need to use your Opal card if taking public transport.

Road closures

Some Sydney roads will close between 3 pm to 12 am during Vivid, with weekend and weekday closure times differing depending on the day.

Impacted roads include, but are not limited to, Pitt Street, George Street and parts of Bridge Street.

Is Vivid Sydney free?

Vivid Sydney offers both paid and free experiences.

Most of the light installations are free, with ticketed events including the immersive Dark Spectrum light journey, hosted in unused Wynyard Train tunnels, which will set visitors back $35 per ticket.

Lightscape at the Royal Botanical Gardens will also be a ticketed event ($30 p.p).

Sydneysiders are advised to arrive in the city before 6pm each night, to prevent traffic congestion.
