Drivers across Sydney’s lower north shore were stung more than $27.5 million in parking and camera fines in a single year, the equivalent of about $75,000 every single day.

Revenue NSW data obtained by Mosman Collective shows Mosman, North Sydney and Willoughby motorists collected 133,932 fines in the 12 months to June 2026, split between $23,724,370 in council parking tickets and $3,828,256 from speed and red-light cameras.

That works out to 367 fines a day across the three council areas, or one roughly every four minutes around the clock.

Parking fines top $23 million

Rangers wrote 123,095 parking fines over the year, and Mosman drivers copped the sharpest rise.

Mosman Council issued 29,528 tickets worth $5,244,386, up almost 24 per cent on the year prior and the highest annual total since Revenue NSW records began in 2018.

North Sydney remained the area’s parking fine capital with 53,467 tickets worth $9,965,605, the equivalent of one fine every ten minutes, though its total fell 6.6 per cent in the first full year, since ticketless fines were banned on 1 July 2025.

Willoughby held steady at 40,100 fines but drivers still paid more (average $212), with revenue up 4 per cent to $8,514,379.

Cameras add another $3.8 million

Speed and red-light cameras caught a further 10,837 local drivers across the three LGA’s, stripping $3,828,256 from motorists on top of the parking haul.

The notorious school-zone speed camera on Macpherson Street in Mosman was the busiest of the lot, snapping 4,349 drivers and issuing $933,634 on its own.

North Sydney’s cameras leaned toward red-light offences, led by the Falcon Street, Neutral Bay camera, the single biggest earner on the lower north shore at $1,483,004 from 2,838 fines.

In Willoughby, the Willoughby Road camera at Naremburn did most of the damage, catching 753 drivers and issuing $434,720.

What it costs local drivers

Parking and camera fine amounts are set by NSW regulation and are identical in every council area, with councils keeping the revenue from tickets their own rangers issue.

Companies are fined five times the individual rate until they nominate the driver behind the wheel.

Statewide, NSW cameras alone issued 67,750 speed and red-light fines worth $35.7 million in June alone, so the lower north shore is a small slice of a very big earner.

A year ago North Sydney was writing one parking ticket every nine minutes, and while the ticketless ban has taken a little heat out of that, the wider lower north shore is now handing over more than $27 million a year to the parking and camera gods.
