Fire Risk – Do not bin your Batteries.
Locals are being urged to keep batteries out of bins, after an increase in garbage bin and waste depot fires.
Lithiom-ion batteries hidden in vapes, toys, e-bikes and even greeting cards can ignite when damaged or crushed.
The warning comes after a garbage truck ignited in Kirribilli in August, reported by Mosman Collective at the time.
Fire authorities say battery fires spread rapidly, releasing toxic smoke, and residents should dispose of them at designated recycling drop off points.
