Mosman’s temporary COVID-19 testing clinic closes

The temporary COVID-19 testing clinic at Georges Heights will cease operating tomorrow (28/1) after five weeks at Georges Heights.

The pop-up clinic run by private provider Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology, opened on 27 December, after community complaints forced the controversial closure of the Melrose St Covid testing facility.

“Mosman Council worked closely with several agencies, including Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, to secure the Georges Heights site, which effectively provided important extra capacity during peak demand,” Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan said.

“Council is deeply grateful to the Harbour Trust’s Chair Joseph Carrozzi, Executive Director Janet Carding and staff for stepping in and making facilities available for the testing site during a very challenging time of great need for the local community.

“Despite the increased use of rapid antigen tests and a reduction in demand for PCR testing clinics we have strongly encouraged Douglass Hanly Moir to continue looking for alternate sites, noting the difficulties in finding a venue that is both easily accessible and does not block intersections, driveways and regional traffic flows.”

Council also acknowledged the forbearance of residents, Headland Park tenants, visitors and others impacted by the temporary clinic.
