Now there’s a headline I never thought I’d write!

Police have confirmed an investigation is underway following a bizarre, early morning incident at Hayes St wharf.

Ben McDonald, chief executive of Matrix Media Group, is the paparazzo involved in an alleged assault by Taylor Swift’s father, Scott, at 2:30am on Tuesday.

The alleged incident occurred at Hayes St wharf in Neutral Bay at 2:30am on Tuesday.

It is believed the pop star and her entourage had been celebrating her sell out Australian tour on a 120-foot luxury yacht cruise around Sydney Harbour, before disembarking in Neutral Bay.

“Police are investigating an alleged assault on Sydney’s North Shore this morning,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Police have been told a 71-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old man at Neutral Bay Wharf about 2.30am, before leaving the location.

“The younger man reported the incident and inquiries are now underway by officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command.

“The man did not require medical treatment.”

In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Mr McDonald said he was out “chasing Taylor” when the alleged altercation occurred.

“She got off a super-yacht at Neutral Bay and walked up the wharf with an umbrella over her head and a couple of security [guards] around her. Security sort of pushed us around with the umbrellas,” he said.

“Then her dad decided to add to the mix and throw a punch in,” he alleged.

In response, a spokesperson for Swift alleged that “two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water”.

McDonald said the spokesperson’s response was an “absolute fabrication”.

The pop icon’s father, often affectionately referred to as “Papa Swift” by fans, has been to each of his daughter’s Australian Eras Tour shows.

His random acts of kindness have become a signature element of the tour.
