Are you ready for this weekend’s Balmoral Swim for Cancer?

One of the few open water races held within Sydney Harbour, the annual spectacle is now in its 35th year and has been raising funds for the Children’s Cancer Institute since 2006.

More than one thousand locals are expected to compete in a 1km and 5km swim on Sunday, 6 April, along with relays, corporate team challenges and junior events.

For 20 years, the Balmoral Swim has proudly partnered with the Children’s Cancer Institute, helping fund critical research to put an end to childhood cancer.

A community-driven, volunteer-run event, the swim is a festival of determination, resilience, and hope, with a target of $200,000 in 2025.

Making waves on Sunday will be Knox Cogan, who is swimming for his brother Tex, who suffers from a rare form of eye cancer.

Diagnosed at the age of just 9 months, Tex has endured chemotherapy, hair loss and years of treatments and surgeries, leaving him with just 10% vision.

This year, Knox Conan will swim for his brother Tex, who suffers from a rare eye cancer.

“Knox is very passionate about supporting his little brother and was so excited to do this swim,” Mum Lace told Mosman Collective.

“He has been blown away by the generosity of those who have donated.

“While Tex fought the battle of cancer, Knox had his challenge – watching his brother suffer and navigating a difficult time for our family. He has come through it with incredible empathy, kindness, and awareness.”

The fundraising target in 2025 is $200,000 and there is still time to register for the open water swim.

Another competitor to watch on Sunday is Drew Schofield, who will swim the 1km with 20 family members despite suffering Muscular Dystrophy.

“For Drew, swimming is more than just exercise – it’s about connection, personal growth, and breaking barriers,” Balmoral Swim coordinator Karen Panaretto told Mosman Collective.

“His story serves as an inspiration to many, proving that with determination and community support, anything is possible.”

The Balmoral Swim for Cancer is a highlight of Mosman’s annual charity calendar, attracting about 1000 swimmers.
