North Sydney News: $1.6 million school crossing upgrade – is yours on the list?
More than $1.6m in grants will be spent improving road safety infrastructure around North Sydney schools.
Mayor Jilly Gibson said: “These grants will help Council pave the way towards safer roads across North Sydney.
“We have a busy, vibrant community and we want to make sure our children are as safe as possible as they make their way to and from school.
“The majority of these projects are ‘shovel-ready’ and will be completed in the next 12 months, so it won’t be long before our residents are seeing these benefits on their streets.”
Council nominated 14 projects for Transport for NSW’s Road Safety Program – School Zone Infrastructure grants and was successful in 11 of them.
The grants will be used to create raised crossings, to extend kerbs and introduce pedestrian refuge islands, which all help improve visibility and slow down traffic, making children safer as they walk to and from school.
