Dynamic Duo: Chris Waller and Hugh Bowman were victorious again this week, with local horse El Buena.

Mosman owned racehorse El Buena had another magnificent win at Canterbury Racecourse on Wednesday.

Trained by Chris Waller and with Hugh Bowman in the saddle, the mighty three-year-old thrilled an excited crowd in the Yarraman Park Easter Yearlings Handicap, outrunning the field over 1200m and beating short priced favourites Siege and Onchao.

El Buena payed $18.80 for the win, and $3.40 for a place on the TAB tote.

There are whispers locally that the bay Gelding is now set for a bigger stage in coming months.

Bowman settled his ride mid-field, where he was able to switch off nicely and travel behind the pack before hitting the home straight.

As they quickened and approached the turn, Bowman waited for a gap and then at the 200m mark pushed through quickly over the final stages, getting his head out as they crossed the line.

Bowman said he was very happy with the run.

“The horse looked great in the mounting yards and came through with the goods on the track,” he said.

“El Buena relaxed nicely through the run with the blinkers on – and was very strong over the concluding stages,” he said.

Chris Waller reports he is now looking to run El Buena on Anzac Day.

El Buena is named and partially owned by a local consortium who were drinking together one afternoon at Mosman’s Buena Vista Hotel.
