GALLERY DONORS – Leaving a legacy for the future.

Mosman Art Gallery has welcomed its most recent significant Living Bequest by Brad Lewis and Leszek Galezia.

They join an honour roll of donors leaving an important legacy for current and future generations through their support of Mosman Art Gallery and Mosman’s broader cultural life including another recent Living Bequest from long-time local residents Carol and Brian Carrigan.

Individual donations provide much-needed support for the gallery’s artistic program, education and learning programs, acquisition of new work and the ongoing preservation of the Mosman Art Collection.

Contributions of any amount are greatly valued with donations over $2 being tax deductible and donations of $1,000 or above gaining 12-month membership to the gallery’s Creative Circle and closer relationships with the gallery’s work.

SUSTAINABLE HOMES – Sign up for Sustainability workshop.

Find out how to assess your home’s water and energy efficiency and how to improve its thermal comfort and sustainability.

The ‘Power in your hands’ DIY home sustainability assessment workshop, organised by Mosman Council’s Environment Team, will feature a practical demonstration of tools, including a thermal imaging camera which can identify potential heat leaks and how much heat is being lost.

BALMORAL FIGS – New app reveals more about Mosman Figs.

Visitors to Balmoral Beach and reserve can now see first-hand the important role the impressive figs lining The Esplanade play in the area’s local environment.

After downloading a free interactive app called CMyTrees from the App Store or Google Play, with the app open, users can scan a QR code displayed at each tree to check its biometrics and levels of carbon storage.

Council’s arborists assessed the trees so that the app can display their level of CO2 uptake and ever-increasing carbon sequestration.

The CMyTrees app has been designed to display and share the carbon storage in large trees around Australia via a real-time dashboard to raise awareness of their environmental importance, particularly in urbanised areas.

SPECIAL STORYTIME – A little something just for kids!

Mosman Library Service is hosting two special free storytime sessions for young children at Barry O’Keefe Library in coming weeks.

Children are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character or in their nicest pyjamas for a special Children’s Book Week Storytime. During the bedtime storytime, which runs from 6pm to 6.30pm on Wednesday 24 August, librarians will be reading some engaging shortlisted picture books.

Then on Saturday 3 September from 10.30am to 11.00am, author and screenwriter Alexa Moses will be reading her notable picture book, Bat vs Poss, which is about sharing and making friends as told through the story of Australian native animals living in a paperbark tree. The Saturday storytime is particularly recommended for children and carers unable to make Mosman Library Service’s regular weekly storytime sessions.

Both the bedtime Book Week and Saturday storytimes are suitable for children aged from three to six years.

SENIORS ACTIVITIES – get involved in your local community.

Seniors can get active or embrace their creative side by enrolling in a class for the new term of activities at Mosman Square Seniors Centre.

Places are still available for Tai Chi or art class on Mondays and table tennis on Wednesdays.

They are among a range of regular activities on offer, including other physical activities as well as music concerts, lunch and learn sessions, themed lunches and outings to interesting locations around Sydney.
