Back on the Boil: Mosman institution Pasta Zu makes a welcome comeback.

Local foodies are rejoicing the return of Pasta Zu to Mosman.

Mosman old-timers will remember it well – Pasta Zu, the beloved gourmet gem that revolutionised weeknight dinners.
When it opened in October 1993, the Italian-inspired concept store was an instant success. Locals flocked to pick up fresh Linguini, Ravioli, Gnocchi and Spaghetti, ready to pair with their sauce of choice.

The Italian inspired concept store was a Mosman institution from 1993-2018.
For time-poor families, it was a game-changer – dinner on the table in minutes.
Over the next 25 years, owner Marc Besser transformed the simple takeaway into a lower north shore institution built on quality ingredients, consistency, and a loyal community following.
Pasta Zu closed its doors in 2018 after Woolworths purchased the shopfront. Marc eventually sold the business to longtime employee Andrew Nadar – and now, in 2025, Pasta Zu is back.

Beef Ragu is back on the menu at Pasta Zu.

Mushroom Risotto, another Pasta Zu favourite, is also available.
The flavours are familiar, but the format is different.
“At a time when rising costs are forcing many small businesses to shut their doors, now is the right time to bring this beloved Mosman institution back to life – in a way that keeps costs low while still serving the same hearty, family-friendly meals,” Mr Nadar told Mosman Collective.
There’s no physical store just yet. Instead, the new-look Pasta Zu runs as a delivery-only kitchen via Uber Eats, offering all those delicious, carb-loaded meals fans know and love.
“The current menu features favourites like Beef Ragu with Linguini, Chicken Korma with Penne, Pumpkin Red Pesto Linguini, Creamy Pesto, and Mushroom Risotto,” Mr Nadar said.

“Soon, there will be greater menu choices for menu items and portion sizes. Pasta Zu will re-introduce half-and-half selections as we move forward, so you can choose your two favourite pastas and have them both in one dish.”
By eliminating the overheads of a dine-in venue, Mr Nadar said Pasta Zu can focus on what it does best: delivering high-quality, fresh pasta dishes – without the premium price tag.

The original Pasta Zu offered fresh sandwiches, soups and even fresh dips.

Pasta was made fresh – and from scratch – each day for 25 years.
“The initial community feedback has been overwhelming,” he said, “we’ve had people who remember Pasta Zu the first time around, but also those who are finding us for the first time.”
“In the coming weeks, we will add a family-sized Beef Lasagne, Vegetable Lasagne, and our famous salads.
“We’re also going to implement a new dessert menu that brings back the Chocolate Mousse, House Tiramisu and White Chocolate Panna Cotta.”
