Fangs fans, rejoice! Neutral Bay’s new dumpling house is the real deal.

Spring Harbour Shanghai Cuisine & Dumplings in Neutral Bay has been given top marks by Sydney food critic Franz Scheurer.

There’s a new dumpling house in Neutral Bay, and for anyone still mourning the loss of Fangs in Cremorne Plaza, the wait is finally over.

Tucked inside The Grove on the first floor, Spring Harbour Shanghai Cuisine and Dumplings has captured the attention of one of Sydney’s most respected food writers, who has given the restaurant top marks for quality and value.

The unassuming restaurant – adjacant to the old Dymocks store – is found on Level One of The Grove shopping centre.

Veteran reviewer Franz Scheurer told Mosman Collective the “Shanghainese” restaurant was a welcome addition to the local dining scene.

“To everyone who used to love Fangs in Cremorne, I have found a worthy replacement,” Scheurer said.

“On our first night we started with all the dumplings we used to order at Fangs – and every single one was as good, comparing it to when Fangs was at its peak, or better.”

Top of the list: the pork bun and the pork and chive pot stickers.

“The pork bun and pork and chive pot stickers were the best I’ve ever tasted,” Scheurer said.

Dumplings are made fresh to order.

Traditional Chinese dishes are also on the menu.

From there, the table moved on to a twice-cooked chicken Scheurer described as “drool worthy,” and a plate of smoked lamb ribs presented at the table with a theatrical release of smoke.

“The smoked lamb ribs were probably my dish of the night,” he said.

Open kitchen, Lower North Shore prices

Diners can watch the action unfold in the open kitchen, where Scheurer said an “extraordinarily talented chef” is at the pass.

The bill, for a table that ate until they could not fit another morsel, came to $35 a head.

“Superb food, lovely people and an extraordinarily talented chef ,” says critic Franz Scheurer.

Mr Scheurer said his bill for his table came to just $35/head.

“Superb food, lovely people and an extraordinarily talented chef in the open kitchen,” Scheurer said.

“Fanbloodymazing experience and highly recommended that all the ex Fangs fans go and check it out.”

There’s also an outdoor area for the warmer nights ahead.
