Popular eastern suburbs Japanese restaurant Washoku is heading to Mosman.

One of Sydney’s best Japanese restaurants is heading over the harbour bridge and will open in Mosman this August.

Cult eatery Washoku has leased premises in Myahgah Mews, the bustling thoroughfare between Mosman Swim Centre and Council chambers.

Washoku has a huge following in the east, with restaurants in Vaucluse and Rose Bay.

Run by husband-and-wife team Anna and Kim Seo, it will be their third offering since 2018 and follows the success of locations in Vaucluse and Rose Bay.

“We have wanted to open in Mosman for a very long time and are thrilled to have finally found the perfect spot,” Anna told Mosman Collective.

“Our restaurants in the eastern suburbs are well established and it’s exciting to move north of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

“As former residents of Vista St, it feels like we are coming home.”

The Mosman restaurant will also offer takeaway – and will be open for lunch and dinner.

Since its launch six years ago, Washoku has become a neighbourhood mainstay in the affluent east, thanks it chef Kim’s flair for western flair with traditional Japanese flavour pairings.

Diners have come to expect sushi rolls with a twist, and a creative approach to sauces and sides often neglected by sushi restaurants.

Anna and Kim Seo will open in Mosman this August.

Seafood and produce is selected fresh from the markets each day, with the focus on quality setting Washoku apart.

“We are known for our variety of seafood and regular patrons know what to expect every time they visit,” Anna said.

“Our fish comes fresh, twice a day. And having the best quality means our menu is good for your health and digestion.”

The Mosman café will seat between 45 and 50 people, with food prepared right before your eyes, Anna said.

Seafood is delivered fresh, twice daily to ensure the very best quality, Anna Seo told Mosman Collective.

Beer, wine and sake will also be available at lunch and dinner.

Popular staples include a Mad-Mex signature roll with kingfish, coriander, cucumber, jalapeno, tobiko, tempura flakes and wasabi mayonnaise, and a jam-packed Wild Lion King with cooked tuna, prawn, salmon aburi, tobiko, avocado, cucumber, spicy mayo and a teriyaki sauce that takes three days to make.

“Our Poke Bowls are always very popular, as is our sashimi and tempura,” Anna said.

“And we will of course have a take-away option for anyone who hasn’t got time to dine-in.”
