Major retailers and supermarkets have revealed their ANZAC Day trading hour restrictions, with New South Wales mandating thousands of stores to remained closed all day.

In respect of the nation’s fallen, most businesses will be shut for part of – or the entire duration – of the annual public holiday on Friday.

Smaller businesses like local coffee shops – and services like chemists – are exempt from trading restrictions.

Smaller businesses like local coffee shops, newsagents and chemists will be open.

Supermarkets

Coles, Woolworths and Aldi will be closed for the day following a major review by the NSW State Government.

Traditionally, large retailers were required to stay closed until 1pm, however, they will remain shut until midnight under the change.

The new rules were brought in by the Minns government to combat the “creeping commercialisation” of the solemn public holiday.

Most supermarkets and bottle shops will be closed. Petrol Stations will be open.

Bottle shops

In New South Wales, bottle shops including BWS, Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market and Vintage Cellars will also be shut for the entire day.

Retailers

Major retailer Kmart will be closed, while local retailers like newsagents, chemists, restaurants and cafes are free to open.

Restaurants

Local eateries, and fast food outlets including McDonald’s will be open on Friday.

Local restaurants like Bathers Pavilion and lower north shore pubs will be open on ANZAC Day.

Petrol stations

Petrol stations also have unrestricted trading hours and are expected to operate as normal on Anzac Day.

Banks

All four of Australia’s big banks will be closed on Anzac Day nationwide and trading will halt on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).
As a result, some payments may not fully process on Friday and share and foreign exchange transactions will not be settled.

Hardware + Home stores

IKEA stores in NSW will be closed on the public holiday, as will Bunnings.
