Mosman’s historic Post Office at 850 Military Rd has been listed for sale in an Expressions of Interest campaign.

And it looks like the landmark building’s days could be numbered, with the 753sqm site marketed as “ideal for a luxury boutique residential project.”

The landmark 753sqm site could become luxury apartments.

The shock news, exclusively revealed by Mosman Collective on Tuesday, has left locals reeling, with many taking to social media to vent their outrage.

“This is such sad news. Soon Mosman will just be full of badly built apartment blocks. Also, where will the nearest Post Office be now,” one resident wrote.

“Disappointing. Locals need to unite and do something about this,” said another.

The Post Office has ten car spaces at the rear.

Driveway access is available from Military Rd.

The impending sale follows the permanent closure of Spit Junction Post Office, as reported earlier this year on our pages.

The site – which has ten car parking spaces – was sold by Australia Post in 2009 for $4,477,000 and is currently leased back to the corporation until 2026.

There is no renewal option.

“This mixed-use property is situated at the heart of Mosman’s retail precinct, offering unbeatable exposure and accessibility,” Lowry Property Group said.

“With a 2:1 Floor Space Ratio (FSR), it’s ideal for a luxury boutique residential project, with water views towards Manly (STCA).”

The Post Office was built in 1906 and has served the community for 118 years.

Expressions of Interest close at 4pm on November 13.
