Commuter outrage as Cremorne Point Wharf closed for SIX months.

Local ferry commuters have been informed Cremorne Point Wharf will be closed for six months, until December.

Local commuters are in for a rough ride after learning the Cremorne Point ferry wharf will be shut down until Christmas.
Transport for NSW Maritime has announced major maintenance works to upgrade the wharf, which are set to begin on Monday, 26 May.

Transport for NSW says a new gangway, new roof on the pontoon and structural upgrades are planned.
The completion date has been slated for Friday, 12 December.
“We’re upgrading the wharf to ensure it remains safe, reliable, and accessible for all passengers,” a spokesperson for the government department said.
“These works are part of our commitment to keeping NSW’s transport infrastructure in top condition and ensuring that local ferry services continue to meet the needs of the community, both now and into the future.”

The wharf will be closed from Monday 26 May 2025.
And while a new gangway, new roof on the pontoon and structural upgrades are planned, commuters are far from happy, with many saying they will be forced to use a “broken down bus system”.
“Peak hour is about to become a worse nightmare for people who use Cremorne Point Wharf,” Susan Murphy told Mosman Collective, “how on earth will the broken-down bus system cope with hundreds of extra passengers each day?”
Another infuriated resident, Danielle Smith, took to social media to demand alternative transport options at Cremorne Point.
“What additional and alternative services are being put on with the closure of the Cremorne Point Wharf,” she asked, “is it expected that we add and join the long bus queues up on Military Rd?”

Thousands of locals and tourists use Cremorne Point ferry wharf, once of Sydney’s most picturesque.
Another resident, Jacquie Murray, called the closure “absolutely outrageous”.
“You can’t get a bus into the city, and now you can’t get the ferry,” she said.
“I guess people will need to start driving into work – oh wait, you can’t do that either because of the ongoing roadworks!”

The wharf upgrade completion date has been slated for Friday, 12 December.

Member for North Shore Felicity Wilson told Mosman Collective that she will meet with the NSW Transport Minister next week to secure “reliable” alternative transport during the upgrade.
‘I’m deeply disappointed by the lack of communication surrounding the upcoming closure of Cremorne Point Ferry Wharf for the roof replacement,” Ms Wilson told Mosman Collective.
“After nearly three years of waiting, Transport for NSW should have handled the communication and management of this closure much more effectively, especially considering that the disruption to our community will be significant.”

You can’t get a bus into the city, and now you can’t get the ferry,” one furious resident told Mosman Collective.
She said the impact of the wharf closure will be felt by small businesses, including the Cremorne Point Wharf Kiosk, run by Bernie Wikarsa.
“The impact of this closure will be tough on the popular coffee shop, a local business that depends on ferry commuters and visitors,” Ms Wilson said.
“My office and I are doing everything we can to support the kiosk during this difficult time, and I encourage everyone to continue supporting them throughout the closure.”
