Council Roundup: Major upgrade to Mosman War Memorial unveiled on Sunday 10 April.

Published On: April 6, 2022

A major upgrade to the Mosman War Memorial will be unveiled on Sunday 10 April.

As part of its commitment to local news, Council provides Mosman Collective with a weekly update of important events and information. Here’s what’s happening.

War Memorial upgrade

A major upgrade to the Later Conflicts Area of the Mosman War Memorial will be officially commemorated and dedicated during the Mosman RSL sub-Branch’s Anzac Sunday Service at 3pm on Sunday 10 April.

The upgrade incorporates the names of 3,497 Mosman residents at the time of their enlistment for service in WWII, Korea, Malaya and Vietnam, on bronze plaques placed on stone plinths.

The additional plaques are consistent with the commemoration in 1925 of 1143 names of Mosman residents who served in WWI, updated in 2020 with the commemoration of another 133 names of Mosman’s dead discovered in 2010.

The commemorative address will be given by Lt Col (R’td) Graham Kells MC and the dedication will be performed by Reverend Tim St Quentin.

Solar panel recycling

Aged solar panels from Mosman homes, businesses and schools can be recycled before the end of June under a council-subsidised program to reduce waste.

The lifespan of a solar panel can range up to about 25 years and currently almost all broken or expired solar panels go into landfill.

The program enables valuable resources to be recovered and remanufactured into new products and is supported by the NSW Environment Protection Authority’s Waste Less, Recycle More initiative.

Contact [email protected] for more information about subsidy conditions or to book a pick-up.

Child restraints

Free child car seat inspection and fitting appointments conducted by an authorised restraint fitter are available for Mosman residents.

Mosman Council and Transport for NSW have a limited number of free vouchers still available to ensure child car seats, harnesses and booster seats are checked and correctly installed so that your child travels safely.

The voucher covers the fitting of up to three seats per household at the residential address after a personal appointment is made with the fitter.

To learn more about local road safety initiatives or apply for the voucher visit the WEBSITE and fill in an application form.

FREE car seat checks are on offer thanks to Mosman Council.

Gallery exhibitions

Several new exhibitions have opened at Mosman Art Gallery and will run throughout April.

Exhibitions include Future Perfect, featuring new works by Mosman Art Society members, Ruth Faerber: Centenary, which marks the 100th year and works of artist Ruth Faerber, Restoration, which celebrates the recent conservation project which preserved selected artworks from the Mosman Art Collection as well as a video work by Taloi Havini on the night-time ritual of mass coral-spawning off Bougainville and Buka Islands.

Bequest information

Residents interested in passing on a cultural legacy and making a positive change for generations to come are invited to a bequest information session.

Learn more about gifts in Wills or making a Living Bequest to Mosman Art Gallery from its most recent Living Bequest donor Carol Carrigan, Gallery Director John Cheeseman and Jacqueline Gin from NSW Trustee & Guardian.
