Did somebody say free pizza? Mosman teens invited to new “after dark” program!

Registrations are open for young people aged 18 to 24 to participate in a new program offering a night out to explore music and art, enjoy free pizza, and socialise with friends old and new.

MAG After Dark is a collaboration between Mosman Youth Services and Mosman Art Gallery, launching on Thursday 19 September from 6pm to 9pm at the Gallery, with performances, an ‘open mic’ session and more.

It is hoped to become a regular event with programming led by young people. Free, bookings via the website.

Youth Mentoring

Following the success of a recent boxing workshop helping our kids build resilience, confidence and skills, mentor and coach Georgie Furze is returning to Mosman Youth Centre to host a free ‘Empower Yourself’ strength and mentoring workshop series for high school aged young people.

The three-session weekly series, which commences on Wednesday 11 September, will teach strength, stretching and movement; physical and emotional regulation; and confidence and empowerment.

Book Worms

Mosman Library Service statistics show last month was a busy one for literary loans. July was recorded as having the most books borrowed for any month during the past two years.
Public libraries across NSW conduct more than 35 million loans a year from almost 13 million items, State Library of NSW public library statistics show.

Printed and online resources, access to technology, meeting and study spaces, and programs and events are just some of the services offered through libraries operated by local councils.

Mosman Library has had a record month for book borrowing.

New Library Shelving

Work to install new shelving in Barry O’Keefe Library is set to start on Monday 2 September.

While access to the library’s upper level will be restricted, the lower level will remain open for browsing, studying, access to a pop-up collection, and PC and meeting room use.

Most library events will go ahead, with some changes to where they will be held.

The project is expected to be completed on Wednesday 4 September and will provide mobile shelving units.

Adult Learning Week

It’s never too late to learn new tricks, and a week dedicated to that sentiment will commence with the start of Spring.

Adult Learners Week is a UNESCO initiative supported in Australia by the Commonwealth Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and coordinated by Adult Learning Australia. Taking place from 1 to 8 September, it promotes events, activities and opportunities for lifelong and life-wide learning.

Council offers a range of adult learning opportunities, from hands-on experience with technology in the Creation Space, to monthly Monday Matters presentations in Barry O’Keefe Library, and Community Lunch and Learn education sessions at Mosman Square Seniors Centre.

Final Council Meeting

Council will hold its final meeting for the current term on Tuesday 3 September, ahead of local government elections on 14 September.
