Learner motorcyclist cops $77,000 in fines after Police discover helmet camera footage.

A Learner motorcycle rider faces a staggering $77,000 in fines, after Police pulled him over and found dozens of offences recorded on a video camera attached to his helmet.

The 23-year-old was busted on the Warringah Freeway at North Sydney, allegedly riding his crotch rocket at 162km/h in an 80km/h zone.

Police said the Learner told them “He was on his way to a nearby driving school where he was due to take part in a program to assist him with becoming a safer rider.”

When officers noticed the man was wearing a GoPro style camera, they confiscated the memory card – and here’s where things take a turn for the worse.

Further analysis by NSW Police of the helmet camera card revealed “multiple video files which depict the learner rider engaging in serious traffic offences around the Sydney metropolitan area.”

“Many of the offences involve the rider travelling in excess of 200km/h on public roads, including on the incorrect side of the road, in breakdown lanes and in bicycle lanes, often in heavy traffic,” said NSW Police.

As a result of further investigations, the learner rider has now been charged with an additional 41 (alleged offences) including:

• 14 x Drive at a speed/in a manner dangerous to the public
• 15 x Exceed speed limit over 45KM/H
• 3 x Exceed speed limit over 30KM/H
• 6 x Other traffic offences
• 2 x Offensive behaviour
• 1 x Breach Public Health Order

The rider’s drivers licence remains suspended, and he is due to appear before Manly Local Court on Thursday 4 November.
