Milsons Point: Top three designs revealed for Harbour Bridge cycle ramp. Vote now!
By ANNA USHER
The NSW Government is asking Sydneysiders to vote for their favourite cycle ramp design, to be built on the northern side of the Harbour Bridge.
Three artists’ impressions for the ramp, connecting the bridge to Milsons Point, have been developed by design firms Aspect Studios, Civille and REALMstudios.
Public consultation on the key elements of the designs will be open until January 23.
The community feedback will then be presented to an expert design panel, before a winning design is announced.
“The community has a once in a lifetime opportunity to help shape the future of this iconic landmark by having a say on three shortlisted designs,” Minister for Transport and Roads Mr Rob Stokes said.
“The designs have been developed to enhance the heritage of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and to ensure a design that respects and embraces Aboriginal culture, as well as being functional for bike riders of all abilities.”
About 2000 cyclists use the bridge every day, making it one of Sydney’s busiest cycling routes.
The new ramp will allow bike riders to avoid having to dismount and haul their bikes up and down a flight of 55 stairs.
Member for North Shore Felicity Wilson said the linear bike ramp was identified as the preferred option following extensive community and stakeholder engagement.
“This unique area of our harbour foreshore has significant historical value and is a special place for local residents as well as people across NSW and the world,” Ms Wilson said.
“This process is about getting the design right for this important place with a piece of infrastructure that is worthy of sharing this iconic location with our Harbour Bridge.”
Community feedback on key elements of the three ramp designs and the Alfred Street south cycleway connection will close on Sunday 23 January 2022.
Following the selection of the winning design, the community will have further opportunities to provide feedback as planning progresses.
