A goldmine of abandoned cold hard cash is waiting for thousands of Mosman and North Sydney residents, who’ve topped the list of unclaimed money held by the State Government.

A treasure chest of more than $467 million is ready to make its way into the hands of absent-minded NSW citizens, Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope says.

“We know many people are doing it tough, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, with most households having to keep a close eye on their budget,” he said.

“This is why I am encouraging people to check their eligibility on the Revenue NSW website to see if you are owed any money; you could have hundreds or thousands of dollars that you didn’t know about.”

You could have hundreds or thousands of dollars that you didn’t know about, Damien Tudehope says.

The bumper haul consists of share dividends, trust accounts, refunds, commissions and deceased estates.

Finding it is just a few clicks away, thanks to an easy online search via NSW Revenue.

“The largest single amount held on the unclaimed money register is more than $1 million from a deceased estate in Cabramatta, while there are ten amounts of more than $500,000 each, waiting to be collected by the rightful owners,” Minister Tudehope said.

“There are also more than 255,000 unpresented cheques worth $108 million waiting to make their way to the proper accounts.”

“Anyone can search for unclaimed money on the Revenue NSW website. It is a free service offered by the NSW Government to get money back into the hands of its owners.”

Mosman residents top the Revenue NSW list for unclaimed money.

In North Sydney, there are 4,429 unclaimed money entries – worth almost $2 million.

In Mosman, there are 4,786 unclaimed money entries – worth more than $1.5 million.

The forgotten cash belonging to residents ranges from a few dollars to more than $20,000.
