Mosman Council wants your say on a “nature play” upgrade at Rosherville Reserve.

Have Your Say: Roseville Reserve playground is set for a $500,000 upgrade. Feedback submissions are now open.

One of Mosman’s most popular green pockets – the playground at Rosherville Reserve near Chinamans Beach – is set for an upgrade, and Council is asking locals to help shape what it looks like.
Mosman Council says it is seeking community feedback to inform the play elements of the facelift, which is scheduled to be implemented by the end of 2026.

Mosman Council says is seeking community feedback on the play elements of the facelift.
The project is being designed to align with the Rosherville Reserve and Chinamans Beach Plan of Management, adopted by Council on 4 November 2025, which emphasises keeping development at a “current low level” – ensuring any new structures remain low-impact and consistent with the reserve’s “relaxed, natural character.”
What’s included?
Council says the Rosherville Reserve Nature Play Upgrade Project will include:
- Bush regeneration works
- Pathways
- An upgrade to the existing playground, including play equipment
The approach is intended to protect the reserve’s natural identity while creating opportunities for informal, non-commercial, nature-based play for children and families.

Rosherville Reserve is one of Mosman’s most treasured – and frequented – public spaces.

What we know about the design direction
According to the project page, the playground will remain in its existing location, with a small walking loop proposed to connect the adjacent bushland area with children’s play activities … encouraging exploration and environmental learning.
Where possible, existing materials will be reused and sand is proposed as the primary natural soft fall surface.
Council also notes the current shade structure may be retained, but the shade cloth would need to be replaced (with community preferences helping guide the final outcome). Playground boundaries may be subtly defined using natural materials such as sandstone blocks, while play elements are expected to incorporate natural timber and nature-inspired equipment.
Notably, Council says that because it’s aiming for a low-impact outcome, fencing is “not encouraged.”

Community submissions are open until February 22.
Funding and timing
Mosman Council says it has received $250,000 from the Metropolitan Greenspace Program and will match funding to deliver the project.
Construction is planned to start in August 2026 and be completed by December 2026, subject to conditions.
