North Sydney Council will vote on a 28-day community consultation for the potential sale of part of Edward St to SHORE on Monday night, a fortnight after councillors agreed to sell a Cremorne cul-de-sac to Redlands School.

The strip the Sydney Church of England Grammar School wants currently divides the junior and senior campuses and is a known traffic bottle neck during pick up and drop off times.

Council’s Acting chief executive Gary Parsons has recommended the consultation run online, alongside a joint community working group covering the wider Shore precinct.

Council last year resolved to investigate the closure and sell off, a move Mosman Collective reported at the time.

Neither the officer’s report nor Monday’s agenda puts a price on the land.

A report to be tabled says at an on-site meeting in September 2025, community members expressed a “clear desire” for broader engagement surrounding “ongoing” traffic and parking issues associated with the school.

The report says a seven-seat “advisory only” working group including two residents, two Council officers, two Shore representatives and Waverton Precinct delegate would investigate the possible sale.

The group could not make binding decisions on land, traffic or planning, negotiate commercial or legal matters, or act as “an advocacy body for individual interests”.

News of the possible Edward St transaction follows Council’s decision to move forward with the sale of Monford Place, a 791-square-metre cul-de-sac off Military Road in Cremorne, to SCEGGS Redlands.

Under the Roads Act 1993, money from a road sale can only be spent buying or repairing public roads inside the local government area.

North Sydney Council meets at 7pm on Monday at 200 Miller St, and the meeting is open to the public and live-streamed.
