Pain Before Gain: Falcon St shared user bridge to close for at least three months.

Published On: April 8, 2025

The Falcon St overpass will be closed until mid-July, as works are completed on a new bridge – part of the Warringah Expressway upgrade.

By ANNA USHER

Locals who use the Falcon St shared user bridge will need to detour for at least three months, when the thoroughfare is closed to traffic as part of the Warringah Freeway upgrade.

Transport for NSW have told Mosman Collective that bike users and pedestrians will need to use the path along the northern side of the Falcon Street road bridge to cross the freeway until mid-July 2025.

The existing Falcon St bridge is being upgraded as part of the Warringah Expressway upgrade.

“From 10pm on Thursday 17 April to 8am on Sunday 20 April 2025, we will set up a crane on the northbound outer freeway lanes to remove a section of the existing bridge on the western side of the freeway at Jeaffreson Jackson Reserve,” a spokesperson said.

“Once removed, we will be able to connect the new shared user bridge with the footpath on Falcon Street.”

During the closure period, bike users and pedestrians will need to detour.

How will this affect you?

Detours: Travel times for pedestrians and cyclists may increase
Traffic impact: Some freeway lanes will close over Easter for construction
Safety considerations: Families with young children and vulnerable road users should take extra care when using detour routes

During this time, pedestrians and cyclists will need to use an alternative route via:

  • The footpath on the north side of Falcon Street road bridge
  • Separated crossings at Ridge Street and Ernest Street
  • Other recommended crossings at Ernest Street, Ridge Street, and High Street

Signage and traffic controllers will be in place to assist commuters in navigating the detour.

This detour map shows the new route to be used until the Falcon St bridge opens in July.
