Prestigious Award: Local Resident Margie George honoured as Life Member of Mosman Rowers.

Published On: July 28, 2020

Mosman resident Margie George has been recognised with a prestigious Honorary Life Membership, for her loyal and outstanding service to Mosman Rowers Club.

The long-time local was announced as the 2020 recipient at a gala dinner this week, prepared by Bird & Bear chef Phil Davenport and attended by Mayor Carolyn Corrigan, Menzies Research Centre Executive Tim James and Rowers President Kathrina Doran.

“Margie has been a Rowers Member for many decades,” Ms. Doran told Mosman Collective, “she and her late husband Geoff have been true stalwarts of the Club. Margie loves the place as though it is her home and is immensely proud of what we have achieved together.”

The local institution fought back from near death, after sliding into administration in 2018.

“Margie was an integral part of the community campaign to save Mosman Rowers and her contributions cannot be overstated.

“From serving on the social committee, organising countless events, looking after memberships, arranging volunteers, fundraising, coordinating the Super Rugby tipping competition, Margie is absolutely tireless – and she has been instrumental in the revival of Mosman Rowers,” Ms. Doran said.

A special plaque was unveiled on the night and guests enjoyed a bespoke dining experience featuring kingfish tartare, wagyu steak and matching wines.

“We are so grateful to our generous Life Members, to our community partners, to Mayor Corrigan and the Mosman Council Team for their incredible and continued support,” Ms. Doran said.

The Club has recently launched a new winter menu and brought back its weekly social calendar, including Wednesday Wagyu Steak Night, Thursday Trivia and curry night, and a Friday Night Meat Raffle.

“Our next big event is a Wagyu & Wine dinner on August 19,” Ms. Doran said, “it’s going to be a great night for local foodies.”
