Mosman teen Felix Pal to represent Australia at World Water Polo Championships.
By JACK KELLY
Most Year 12 students already have their hands full with impending HSC exams, but one Mosman teen has the added pressure of wearing the Green and Gold this July.
The 17-year-old Scots College student Felix Pal will represent the nation in the Under 18 Australian men’s water polo team at this year’s world championships in Argentina in July.
“I wasn’t very involved with the national process until recently,” Felix told Mosman Collective this week.
“To be picked for the Australian team was a great surprise. I’m excited to go out and be a part of it.”
But, before the young gun can make the trip, he must first raise money.
Unfortunately, Australia doesn’t fund their junior teams, and with an estimated cost of $16,000 for each player, Felix’s dad, Damon, is calling on the community for help.
“It’s a great privilege to represent Australia and represent your country. Unfortunately, there’s just not a lot of funding from the national programmes,” Damon said.
“It is expensive, as everyone knows, so we’re just looking for the best help and most help we can, wherever we can, and we’re very appreciative of that.”

So far, almost $3,500 has been raised – but there’s still a long way to go.
“I’m very passionate because it’s a great pathway to get through school,” Felix said.
Water Polo runs deep in the Pal family; Felix’s late grandfather played in Hungary, and his father is a former US champion. Now, the third generation is about to make waves on the international stage.
“My brother George is a Water Polo gun, so it might be in our DNA,” Felix said.
“My dad played in the US as part of Cal Berkeley and won three national championships there, so my dream has always been to match his success.
“I think the main reason I’m so passionate is because it’s a family thing for me… Water Polo is embedded in our history,” Felix said.
But while excited about the world championships, finishing year 12 is still an essential priority.
“After the championships I’ll have to face the HSC Trial Exams. So yeah, it’s going to be tough balancing study and sport. But I think it’s worth it.”
Asked whether he sees an Olympic gold medal on the horizon, Felix is quietly confident.
“I wouldn’t get my hopes up. But you know, I’ll always keep my fingers crossed!”
If you can help fund Felix’s journey to the World Championships, any amount (big or small) is greatly appreciated and every cent counts.
“I am so thankful to everyone who has donated and any financial assistance from the community is going to make a huge difference in getting me to Argentina.”
