A vacancy has been posted on the Mosman Council website seeking applicants to become one of the most disliked professions on the planet.

A parking ranger.

Mosman Council says it is seeking “an enthusiastic person” to take up the full-time role of dishing out parking tickets.

Yes folks, Council is on the hunt for a new employee to dish out hefty parking fines on Mosman roads, reserves and beaches.

The successful incumbent will make up to $103, 192 a year, including superannuation and other benefits.

“Our employees enjoy many great benefits, including public transport travel subsidy, tertiary study assistance, health and well-being initiatives and annual Award increases,” the advertisement says

Council Rangers in Mosman work a 7-day rotational roster.

Applications for the role close on October 10.

The job description involves “carrying out patrols of on street parking including school zones and all timed and metered parking areas across Council.”

Council Rangers in Mosman also assist with matters regarding litter, barking or stray dogs, abandoned vehicles and building sites operating outside set hours.

And while they cop a bad rap from most in the community, Mosman Council describes its workers as “making a difference at the local level”.

“The recruitment and selection of talented staff committed to giving back to the community is a high priority for us, as we know our reputation relies on it.”

Council Rangers in Mosman also assist with matters regarding litter and dog barking.

Mosman Parking Rangers, easily identifiable in their green and khaki uniforms, are notoriously unpopular with local drivers and dog owners, who regularly vent their frustrations on social media pages.

“Does anyone else find that the parking police down at Balmoral are very full on,” one local resident asked in a community Facebook group, “I lined up at the ticket machine and turned to walk back to my car and the guy was giving me a ticket.”

“The parking officers around here are ridiculous,” another wrote, “I parked my tray backed truck in a truck zone and still got booked.”

“I was fined at Balmoral for putting the ticket on the dashboard of the driver’s side instead of on the passenger’s side!” said another.

Rangers in Mosman wear a khaki uniform.

The successful applicant will work weekends and pubic holidays.

Applicants for the role close at 11:30pm on 10 October.

A regular 7-day shift rotational roster – including weekends and public holidays – is part of the job.

“The successful incumbent will be able to demonstrate sound decision making in issuing Warnings, Notices or Penalties and will also be involved in the investigation of customer requests relating to parking or other matters where required.”
