A mystery buyer has shattered property records and sent Mosman gossip into overdrive after quietly purchasing a Chinamans Beach home for more than $43 million.

It is the highest price ever paid for a Sydney property north of the Harbour Bridge.

Property records show the McLean Crescent home is owned by Victor and Maria Virgona, who purchased the 1035sqm block for $5.5 million in 2010.

Now, just 15 years later, the couple have on-sold for eight times that amount to an unidentified buyer.

Adding to the intrigue, the agent behind the deal is not based in Mosman, but operates from the upper north shore.

The record-breaking property sits next to Rosherville Reserve, with direct access to Chinamans Beach.

The property was purchased for $5.5m in 2010.

During its previous marketing campaign, the home was billed as a “Mediterranean retreat” with spacious, glass-framed living and dining, heated limestone floors and open Jetmaster fireplace, atrium-style sunroom, gym and a master bedroom with a large bathroom and spa.

Several local real estate sources have expressed surprise at the transaction, with one telling Mosman Collective the buyer “paid way over the odds for that location”.

“The property is worth $30 million, so the purchaser clearly wanted to secure it at any cost,” he said on the condition of anonymity.

The $43 million record breaking residence is located next door to Rosherville Reserve.

In a story published on Wednesday evening, The Australian Financial Review reports screenshots of the home along with its $43 million price tag are being circulated on Chinese social media platform WeChat.

The McLean Cres home, which boasts views of the harbour, sets a new benchmark for Mosman, surpassing the $40m high achieved on Bradleys Head Rd in 2024.

It also overtakes the broader north shore record of $42.75m, set Coolawin Rd in Northbridge earlier this year.
