Hola! A hot new Tequila bar in North Sydney is calling your name.
By ANNA USHER
Sydney’s hot young things have a new tequila playground on their radar – and you’ll find it right here on the lower north shore.
Four Hundred is a buzzy rooftop bar that’s surfing the Mexican wave with punchy Margaritas, and share-style eats from hospo industry veteran Tilley and Wills.
Named after Mayahuel, the Goddess of Agave, who gave birth to 400 tequila-drinking rabbits, the Tulum-inspired, 250-seat space offers a fun and stylish escape for thirsty corporate workers and small groups, striking a perfect balance between sophisticated and cheeky.
Executive chef Brad Sloane (Greenwood Hotel, Buena Hotel, Verandah Bar, Cabana Bar) is behind Four Hundred’s bold Mexican menu with creative takes on Peruvian, Spanish, Argentine and Cuban cuisines.
If you’re grabbing lunch on the run, he suggests individual plates like succulent Pinnacle Flat Iron Steak, Ancho Spatchcock, and Pescado & Papas (a playful take on fish and chips) or an irresistible sandwich like the Mojo Cubana loaded with BBQ pork neck and double smoked ham Swiss cheese.

For those planning a night out, try a vast array of sharing plates brimming with delectable hand-held bites, like the freshest Snapper Aguachile that rises to the occasion. And don’t forget crowd favourites, including a range of mouth-watering tacos best enjoyed during a daring Marg session!
Four Hundred is the latest stellar offering to an exploding dining landscape, including Lobby Boy, Glorietta, Rafi, Poetica and Lou Lou.
So, what’s changed in North Sydney? “It went into a bit of a hole, but there are new commercial and residential buildings, lots of companies coming in, and the new railway station [linking it with Barangaroo from 2024],” Nick Wills told the Sydney Morning Herald recently.
“There’s a real resurgence here (in North Sydney), a real energy. We want to do something cool and aspirational – and the result is Four Hundred,” he said.
Locals can fire up after-work with Four Hundred’s signature sour-style Mayahuel cocktail featuring Sesión blanco tequila, mezcal, Aperol, passionfruit, lemon, agave and egg white.
But if tequila’s not your thing, an extensive drinks list covers you with premium beers, wine, champagne and spirits.
Christmas party-goers should also consider a Four Hundred Bottomless Lunch launching every Saturday for two hours at just $89 per person, with Margs, Mimosas, wine and beer getting you in the festive spirit.
