Cancelled: Luna Park postpones grand re-opening after Covid cluster concerns.
Luna Park has announced its gala re-opening, set for this weekend, will be postponed as a result of the new Covid restrictions.
The park has just undergone a $30 million upgrade, including nine new world-class rides.
“Our staff, contractors and engineers have been working around the clock to ensure the first eight of the nine new rides were ready to start operating on Friday, as part of our upgrade of Luna Park,” Managing Director Peter Hearne said.
“However, the health and safety of visitors and staff always comes first, which is why we have decided to postpone the re-opening the park and the unveiling of the new rides as soon as restrictions are relaxed.
“We apologise to the wider Luna Park family that have been so much looking forward to the new rides and facilities, but I am sure we all agree that this is the right thing to do at the right time.”
Mr Hearne said Luna Park will contact guests already issued with tickets, to discuss booking options in the coming days.
“We have transformed this 86-year-old icon into a world-class amusement venue fit for the 21st century, while painstakingly retaining the heritage and history of this amazing harbourside site,” he said.
“It will just take a little longer to show Sydney what is in store.”
