Constant Reader on Military Rd to be replaced by NAB.

The National Australia Bank is hoping to take over the premises at 878 Military Rd when Constant Reader bookstore vacates the building on March 27.

The bank, currently located a few doors down at 892 Military Rd, has lodged a Development Application with Mosman Council, proposing building alterations and the inclusion of an ATM.

The coveted site is in the heart of Mosman village.

The estimated cost of the work is $767,800, with the relocated branch operating from 9:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Thursday and to 5pm on Friday.

Located in the centre of Mosman village, the site has operated as a bookstore since 1979, making it one of Sydney’s longest running independent bookstores.

Prior to Constant Reader’s arrival on the shopping strip two years ago, the site operated as Pages and Pages.

Owner Jay Lansdown recently told locals of the store’s imminent closure, as reported last Friday in our weekly newsletter the “Mosman Mail”.

878 Military Rd has been home to an independent bookstore since 1979.

“We love being here in Mosman and you have all helped make this shop a great success,” he said.

“We have unfortunately not been able to secure a further lease at 878 Military rd and have been asked to vacate by the 31st of March 2022.

“We are currently looking for new premises in Mosman village and will let you know as soon as we find some.”
