Exclusive: Landmark Cammeray café Maggio’s to open Giovanni Pizza in Mosman!
By ANNA USHER
The team from cult Cammeray café Maggios is heading to Mosman, launching a second Pizza restaurant after being inundated with delivery requests from locals.
Called Giovanni Pizza, brothers Martin and Glenn Stalley know a thing or two about the Italian staple, with a focus on high quality, local ingredients and a pillowy, crispy base pocketed with the perfect amount of bubbling crust.
The pizza “branch” of Maggios has been running successfully for three-and-a-half years and became one of the lower north shore’s favourite take-aways during the pandemic, Martin told Mosman Collective.
“When Maggios branched out to offer pizza, word spread pretty quickly and we had queues out the door from day one,” he said.
“Pizza became a go-to comfort food during lockdown and ours are seriously tasty, as the people of Cammeray will tell you.
“We can’t wait to open in Mosman.”
The new store will fill the void left by Mino Japanese at 521 Military Rd, just across from Hotel Mosman.
The eatery will focus mainly on takeaway pizza, with just a couple of seats out the front.
“It’s not going to be an ‘eat-in’ restaurant because most of our orders are from people who just want to run in and grab a hot, delicious pizza on the way home,” Martin said.
The most popular dishes on the menu, which ranges from $15 to $23, are the Margarita and the Supreme.
“Our Supreme pizza is next level, packed with ham, mushroom, pepperoni, green capsicum, red onion, olives and pineapple,” Martin said.
“It’s the best $22 you’ll ever spend.”
Named ‘Giovanni’ after the Maggio patriarch, Martin says the store will have historic photos of the family on the walls, and clean
The pizzeria will be open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:30pm to 10pm, and Thursday to Sunday from 11:30am until 10pm.
Giovanni plans to open its doors just after Anzac Day.
