Residents report Tiger sighting on first floor of Mosman Council Chambers!

Council ‘Bear Pit’ welcomes a Tiger!

Sightings of a fully grown Sumatran tiger on the first floor of Council Chambers have been confirmed after several reports from curious local residents.

The tiger, a huge installation overlooking Mosman Square and Spit Junction, is promoting Wild Lights at Taronga Zoo as part of Sydney’s Vivid festival.

Wild Lights will run from Friday 27 May to Saturday 18 June every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well as the public holiday Monday 13 June.

Entry will be available during sessions which start from 5.30pm or from 7.30pm for the two-hour experience with costs starting from $19.95.

Playgrounds completed in time for school holidays!

Upgrades to two popular Mosman playgrounds have been completed, with Clifton Gardens playground reopening for kids young and old – and new amenities block at Memory Park being unveiled.

The new tower feature at Clifton Gardens caters to children of all ages and was specifically designed for the location, while Memory Park’s new accessible amenities include a unisex ambulant toilet and an accessible toilet with baby change facility.

The Memory Park works were funded through the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Youth Art Prize winners announced.

Seventeen talented young artists have been acknowledged at the 2022 Mosman Youth Art Prize and are on exhibition along with works by 200 other entrants at Mosman Art Gallery until Sunday 12 June.

First prize in the tertiary category went to Karoun Zoouain for Vignette, depicting contemporary still life paintings from a domestic setting, first prize in the secondary category was awarded to Sydney Boys High student Steven Zheng, for his domestic still life featuring his cat and PLC Croydon student Iris Hon was awarded first prize in the junior category for her work depicting her great grandmother.

The exhibition was officially opened with a public event which attracted about 1,000 visitors and featured live “painting” by artist Luke Arnold of a vehicle from Gold Sponsor Audi Centre Mosman, which is now on display in its showroom.

Author talks return to Mosman Library.

Mosman Library Service has a bumper offering of author talks over coming weeks.

Dr. Rachel Franks will share her new book An Uncommon Hangman, an intriguing biography of NSW’s longest-serving executioner, on Wednesday 15 June.

Robert ‘Nosey Bob’ Howard used to be a household name, but while the noseless hangman who sparked fear and fascination has since been largely forgotten, his story is vital to understanding attitudes towards capital punishment in Australia.

After years of writing non-fiction, author and journalist Shirley LaPlanche will share her first novel, The Fatal Path, on Monday 20 June, which is set in Sydney with twins, murder, intrigue, romance and a powerful psychological undercurrent which leads to a dramatic climax.

Local author and screenwriter Greg Woodland, author of the 2021 Ned Kelly Award shortlisted The Night Whistler, returns with another rural thriller, The Carnival is Over, featuring Sergeant Mick Goodenough. Bookings for the talk which will be held on Monday 8 August open on Thursday 21 July.
