It’s the power of local news – and community connection – at its finest.

After reading Mosman Collective’s exclusive story on the sale of kitchenware institution Accoutrement in April, a local couple in their mid-50s was the first to contact outgoing owner Sue Jenkins – and have now officially purchased the business.

Mosman icon Sue Jenkins has owned Accoutrement for nearly 50 years and is now ready to retire.

The lower north shore residents, who wish to remain unnamed until they take over on July 1, say the opportunity to continue Accoutrement’s legacy was “too special to pass up.”

“Accoutrement has such a unique place in the community,” they said. “We saw the story on Mosman Collective and jumped at the chance. It just felt right.”

Professionals with international careers and experience in small business and hospitality, the couple says they plan to take a “hands-on” approach to running the store – but promise to keep the soul of Accoutrement exactly as locals know and love it.

“There are no plans to change the team or the shop’s personality,” they said. “We will protect Sue’s legacy and enhance what’s already there.”

The store will remain at the same address (where it’s been since the 1980s) and all staff are being retained.

Under the new owners, it will be business as usual – with a fresh twist. Future plans include hosting chef events, book signings, expanding the store’s online presence, and growing a VIP customer base.

“We want to build a vibrant e-commerce and influencer platform, spotlighting Australian chefs and products – all while keeping the community at the heart of everything we do.”

Accoutrement, which first opened in the 1970s, has been a cornerstone of Mosman village for decades, known for its curated range of cookware, kitchen gadgets and premium culinary products.

“We’re not just buying a business,” the new owners said. “We’re becoming part of something special.”

The new owners say they will remain in close contact with Sue Jenkins and intend to honour her vision well into the future.

“We’re not just buying a business,” they said. “We’re becoming part of something special – and we’re excited for the next 50 years.”

Editor’s Note: Mosman Collective has agreed not to reveal the new owners’ names until they take official ownership of Accoutrement on July 1.
