Mosman’s Westpac and St George branches will be under one roof from August if plans lodged with Council are approved.

The St George branch at 890 Military Rd will relocate down the road to Westpac’s long-standing location on the corner of Belmont and Military roads.

The merge is part of a cost-saving initiative set to impact 100 branches over the next 18 months.

The St George on Military Rd in Mosman will re-locate down to the corner of Belmont Rd, to join forces with Westpac.

Westpac has already opened co-locations in more than 50 towns and suburbs nationwide, including Dubbo, Lithgow, Port Stephens, Mount Druitt and Warringah Mall.

A Westpac spokesperson told Mosman Collective the new, combined branch would not impact customer experience.

“Our Westpac & St.George teams will be working together under one roof in Mosman when our co-location opens in August 2023,” the spokesperson said.

“These co-locations are an important part of our strategy, bringing two branches together under one roof to maintain a strong presence for both brands and ensuring our customers continue to have access to all the services they have today.

The Westpac branch in Neutral Bay permanently closed in April 2023.

“We will be communicating with our customers of both brands as we move closer to the opening date.”

The co-location move follows the permanent closure of Westpac and St George branches in Neutral Bay.

Banks have closed dozens of lower north branches over the past three years, with the exit of Suncorp, Bendigo, Commonwealth and others in North Sydney and Mosman LGA’s.
