Mosman Art Gallery
Mosman Art Gallery has launched a new Acquisition Fund to support the continued expansion of its acclaimed Mosman Art Collection, and to mark the 10th anniversary of The Balnaves Gift set of early Australian paintings which was generously donated in 2012 by the late Neil Balnaves AO.
To kick-start the fund, the gallery is supporting the proposed acquisition of Imants Tillers’ major work Factum 1, 2021, ahead of a planned survey exhibition of Tillers’ work in 2024, which will feature this work.
The new fund will continue Neil’s inspiring legacy by facilitating the acquisition and commissioning of works for the Mosman Art Collection.
Contact the gallery’s Philanthropy Officer Ann Shoebridge on 9978 4164 to find out more about available opportunities.
New Playgroup!
Join Council’s new Connections Playgroup for preschool children with toys, singing, crafts and morning tea to help enhance your child’s learning and development and to meet other parents and carers.
Facilitated by an experienced educator the playgroup sessions provide opportunities for parents and carers with children aged 5 years and under to participate in a fun, play-based environment.
The playgroup will be held each Friday from 10am to 12pm during school terms from 14 October at The Drill Hall, Cross St, Mosman.
All children must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or carer at all times.
Registration essential, cost is $10 per family, per session.
Art Explorers
Drop in with your children to participate in a supervised art-making activity inspired by Mosman Art Gallery’s leading annual exhibition, the Mosman Art Prize, especially for children aged 3 to 5 years.
All children must be accompanied by an adult to the free event which will be held at Mosman Art Gallery on Tuesday 13 September from 10.30am to 12.00pm. No bookings are required.
Art Explorers is the gallery’s free public education program which supports the early introduction of art experiences.
The Mosman Art Prize activity has been supported by Bendigo Bank, Eckersleys Art & Craft, Marlen English and two anonymous donors.
Green Sheep Adventure
Children are invited on an adventure to help find green sheep grazing around Barry O’Keefe Library in the spirit of Mem Fox’s much loved classic Where is the green sheep?
Children and their families can challenge themselves to find as many sheep as possible, scanning the provided QR codes and clues to work out the location of the sheep as they enjoy an adventure around the library.
The free event is an initiative of Relationships Australia in partnership with Mosman Council and runs from Monday 26 September to Sunday 2 October.
Monday Matters
Random House Australia publisher and former Sydney Writers’ Festival director Meredith Curnow will share a glimpse into a day in her life at next month’s Monday Matters talk.
Mosman Library Service’s popular monthly series of free talks and workshops are held on the first Monday of each month, with other upcoming topics including the magic of embroidery with members of the Mosman Group of the Embroiderers’ Guild NSW, and the history of 2CH radio and good music with classical and jazz pianist, composer, arranger and orchestrator Samuel Cottell.
To book for the next free event with Meredith Curnow at Barry O’Keefe Library on Monday 10 October from 10.30am to 11.30am visit the Website.
