Finally! Mosman Market returns to the village green this August and we’re here for it!

Mosman Market is back this August with works now completed at Mosman Square and Village Green.

Get excited people! Mosman’s much loved monthly market returns on Saturday 5 August with a free sausage sizzle to celebrate the official opening of the newly refurbished Mosman Square and Village Green.

Boasting unique homewares, art, jewellery, clothing, gifts and more, you can again spend a leisurely Saturday browsing 130 stalls, while enjoying gourmet take-away food, live music and fresh juices or coffee.

Here’s our roundup of what else is happening in the neighbourhood, thanks to Mosman Council.

An introduction to Astronomy will take place on 16 August as part of Science Week.

Science Week

Spaces are still available for two free special National Science Week events at Barry O’Keefe Library.

Astrophysicist Dr Angel Lopez-Sanchez from Macquarie University, will present an intergenerational illustrated talk ‘An Introduction to observing the night sky’ on Wednesday 16 August from 7pm to 8pm.

Meanwhile U3A lecturer Ian Thompson will lead a discussion for adults on top women scientists from around the world, their discoveries and inventions from antiquity to now and how they have shaped our lives on Monday 14 August from 10.30am to 11.30am.

Backyard Bees

Residents interested in homing European bees in their backyard or rooftop gardens can attend a workshop outlining all the basics on how to introduce a hive.

Steps to ensure your new pets are happy and healthy will be covered alongside how to harvest their delicious honey.

Long-time beekeeper Vicky will share her inspirational passion for bees during the talk on Tuesday 15 August from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Mosman Civic Centre.

Free E-Waste drop off is at Civic Centre carpark, The Crescent, Mosman, between 9am and 4pm on Sunday 27 August.

Free E-Waste Drop-Off

It’s time to start sorting through unwanted e-items ahead of Council’s free biannual e-waste collection next month.

Computers, laptops, monitors, TVs, DVD/CD/VHS media and players, printers, small electrical appliances, mobile phones, game consoles, microwaves, light bulbs, and computer peripherals will be accepted.

For security, it is recommended to wipe data from devices before dropping them off at the Civic Centre carpark, The Crescent, Mosman, between 9am and 4pm on Sunday 27 August.

Mattress Recycling

Council offers a free mattress recycling service for residents as part of Council’s recycling initiatives to divert problem waste items from landfill.

Many mattress materials such as foam, cotton, steel and timber can be recycled despite Australians sending 1.2 million mattresses to landfill every year.

To divert an unwanted mattress from landfill, find your next household clean up date by visiting the website and place the mattress beside your clean up pile for easy collection and recycling.

Festival of Mosman returns from October 20 – 29.

Save the date! The 2023 Festival of Mosman is on from Friday 20 October to Sunday 29 October.

Look forward to a special outdoor concert, open air cinemas, OctoberFeast Night Market, First Nations Cultural Event and a special Dinner on the Green, as well as environmental activities and art exhibitions.

The festival will end on a pawfect note with the popular Pet’s Day Out at Mosman Square and Village Green on Sunday 29 October headlined by Dr Katrina Warren, Farmer Dave, DOGA by Rancan Sisters Fitness, Dancing Dogs R Us and much more.

Free Activity: Plant trees at Reid Park on Sunday 30 July from 8.30am to 12.30pm. Refreshments provided.

National Tree Day

Mosman’s National Tree Day planting event will be held at Reid Park on Sunday 30 July from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

All equipment and plants, along with some refreshments, will be supplied for the free activity.

Since 1996, more than 26 million trees have been planted around the country by over six million volunteers through the community tree planting and nature care initiative.

Contact Council’s Bushland Management Officer on 9978 4038 to register your interest in attending Mosman’s event.

Storage Racks

As part of its works maintaining marine structures, Council has recently completed the renewal of the watercraft storage facilities at Inkerman Street Jetty and Pearl Bay.

The new storage racks will enable users to store their kayaks and dinghy’s safely at both locations.

Council also refurbished the deteriorated nearby seawalls to improve access around the facility as part of the project.
