Pack the picnic rug and block out your Sunday afternoons – North Sydney is rolling out a free live-music series this autumn, and it’s shaping up to be one of the area’s best family-friendly events of the season.

Sunset Series will take over St Leonards Park across three Sunday afternoons, combining high-quality live music with kids’ activities, food options and a relaxed, stretch-out-on-the-grass atmosphere.

The free concerts will take place over three Sunday’s – March 15, April 12 and May 17.

Running from 3pm to 6pm, the outdoor concerts span jazz, swing, brass and symphonic sounds – all completely free, no bookings required.

Sunday 15 March – A jazzy start

The series opens with a strong jazz focus, led by The Pocket Trio alongside featured performers Monica Trapaga, Kate Wadey, Tilly Street and Edo Santini.
They’ll be joined by Feel the Manouche, known for their gypsy jazz sound with an Australian edge.

Sunday 12 April – Brass, beats and big energy

Expect toes tapping (and kids dancing) when Hot Potato Band n takes the stage with its high-octane brass performance.
Local act The Young Guns will open the afternoon.

Sunday 17 May – A symphonic finale

The final concert shifts gears with multi-genre song-woman Dyagula, followed by a headline performance from the North Sydney Symphony Orchestra – a return that promises far more than traditional classical fare.

Locals and visitors are invited to bring a picnic rug to the park and stretch out on the grass, ready for the music to start at 3pm.

Each date will also feature curated kids’ activities, including face painting and roving entertainment, plus a selection of food and drink options to keep families settled in for the afternoon.

North Sydney Mayor Zoe Baker said the series highlights how the area’s public spaces can be used to bring people together.

“Sunset Series brings together talented artists, community groups and local food to create a welcoming, inclusive, family-friendly environment,” she said.

“Events like these support local creatives while strengthening social connection and community wellbeing.”
