Mosman Design Awards

The winners of the 2025 Mosman Design Awards have been announced with a modern twist on a 1960s classic taking out three prizes. Cloaked House, a project by TRIAS architects, was named the overall winner and picked up prizes in the alterations and additions and sustainable design categories.

A Beauty Point build by CO-AP (Architects) was named best new house, and a reimagined residence – Vastu House by McNally Architects – was voted the People’s Choice.

Sustainable Driving

Electric vehicle (EV) displays will be among the many highlights at the Mosman Sustainability Fair happening on 21 September, from 10am to 2pm, at Balmoral Reserve.

Not-for-profit association Zero Emissions Solutions will run an EV display, while students from Queenwood will showcase a custom-built electric van.

The vehicle is set to be used to transport equipment and resources around the school grounds.

Other attractions include Bike ‘n Blend pedal-powered smoothie making, a presentation on induction cooking, and a chance to make beeswax wraps.

Textile Recycling

Mosman has joined an Australian-first pilot program for household textile recycling.

Every year, Australians send thousands of tonnes of textiles to landfill, including sheets, towels, and other everyday items that could have a second life.

The kerbside trial gives selected households the chance to recycle their unwanted household linen using their yellow recycling bin.

Clean, washed, unwanted linen made from cotton, polyester, linen, or bamboo is placed into a provided bag, tagged and scanned using a QR code and app, then placed in the recycling bin.

The bags will be separated from other recyclables at a material recovery facility and sent for onshore textile recycling, ready to be made back into new textiles and clothing, helping support a circular economy.

Planning Changes

A resident-led petition on State Government planning changes is open for signatures via the NSW Parliament website.

It comes alongside a resolution from Council’s September meeting to explore options for alternate plans for development in Mosman. Council also supported a series of actions aimed at advocating for better development outcomes for the local area.

In accordance with the resolution, Mayor Ann Marie Kimber has scheduled a meeting with the Planning Minister this month to discuss the impact the planning reforms are having, with a view to advocate for an alternate option.

Residents are invited to sign a community-led petition on State Government planning changes.
