Open water swim to raise Melanoma funds in memory of Mosman’s Erik Mather.
By ANNA USHER
Residents are invited to take part in the Erik Mather 2 – 4 – 6 charity Swim this Saturday 12 February.
Over successive years in the 1980’s and 1990’s, the passionate local was the Balmoral Beach Club Captain, Club Champion and Iron Man Champion.
Erik died from Melanoma in 2011. He was just 45.
The 2,4,6 km invitational open water swim established in 1998, was renamed in 2013 by the Balmoral Beach Club in Erik’s memory.
“Erik left a wonderful legacy to the community through the creation of the Balmoral Beach Club Nippers, which is said to have the highest participation rate across all of the Nippers programs in NSW,” Monika Mather told Mosman Collective this week.
“Every contribution will help reach our target this year of $25,000.
“All donations are received by the Melanoma Institute Australia and will directly fund the Erik Mather PhD Scholarship program established to recognise the significant contribution that the event and the BBC community make to research programs in melanoma treatment at the Melanoma Institute Australia.”
Balmoral Beach Club members and member’s guests participating in the race are encouraged to make a contribution of any amount, in support of the Melanoma Institute of Australia.
The target this year is $25,000.
Registration numbers for the swim event are strictly limited. No on-the-day registration is available. Under 18’s will need to provide parent/guardian details in the event they need to be contacted to confirm their consent.
The Balmoral Beach Club Events and the Mather Family thank you for your support.
