Retail News: Telstra store at 732 Military Rd, Mosman to close on September 4.
By ANNA USHER
Telstra will close its Mosman store at 732 Military Rd on September 4.
The shock news is today uncovered by Mosman Collective, who received confirmation from the telco giant late on Tuesday afternoon.
In a statement, a Telstra spokesperson said the abrupt decision to exit the store at the close of trade next Wednesday had been made during a review of retail store footprint strategy.
“There were a number of contributing factors into the decision to close this store, including the catchment overlap of the North Sydney area,” the spokesperson said.
“We have numerous Telstra stores close by, including North Sydney, Chatswood Chase, Chatswood and the newly re-opened Sydney Icon store all providing alternate options for our customers to access.”
The closure has angered many residents, who took to Mosman Collective’s social media pages to vent their frustration.
“I’m devastated that Telstra is closing this store,” reader Miranda Barclay said.
“The staff were so helpful and the store so easy for me to access via a short walk from my home.
“Now I’ll be forced to take a bus ride to North Sydney. At least the Vodaphone store is probably cheering as they will no doubt pick up a swathe of new customers.”

Local Justin Oscar described the move as “a kick in the Jatz” for Spit Junction.
“No Telstra, no post office, no idea,” he said, “Hope everyone is looking forward to another tedious tile shop or yet another shabby massage parlour.”
According to the Telstra spokesperson, all Mosman staff will keep their job roles.
“Supporting our Mosman Telstra team is incredibly important to us, and all staff impacted by this decision will move to nearby Telstra stores with their preferences taken into account,” the spokesperson said.
“All staff will be retained, and roles will be relocated to other nearby Telstra store locations.”
The news is another blow to many of Mosman’s elderly residents, who have been impacted by recent local banking changes, and the impending closure of Spit Junction Post Office.
“I have an elderly friend who will see this closure as devastating,” one Instagram user wrote, “she has [had] problems with Telstra on occasions and she doesn’t drive. Not good.”
