Two teenagers have now been charged and more are expected to be arrested following Saturday’s violent brawl in Northbridge.

The shocking incident, reported exclusively by Mosman Collective earlier this week, broke out around 7:40pm at the annual fireworks festival on Northbridge Oval.

It has now been revealed a female police officer was kicked in the face during the melee, and a boy repeatedly stomped on.

Footage of the brawl, aired on Thursday by 2GB, shows a group of teens attacking a boy, who makes an effort to escape through the crowd, before being dragged to the ground.

He is punched several times and stomped on as a security guard tries to break up the fight. As the guard pushes one of the offenders away, another approaches, kicking the boy in the head.

The teen is kicked again while on the ground before a witness tackles one of the perpetrators to the ground. A person can be heard calling security and police to the oval over a loudspeaker.

Superintendent Paul Devaney, from North Shore Police Area Command, said a “hostile” group had surrounded police, sparking a call for more officers to be deployed.

He told Ben Fordham a 16-year-old boy from a neighbouring suburb was arrested on Saturday night and charged with several offences, including being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, common assault, affray, assaulting police and resisting arrest.

A 15-year-old was also arrested and charged with failing to comply with a police direction to move on from the area.

Superintendent Devaney said officers would speak with the 15-year-old again after obtaining video of the brawl.

The annual event is a highlight of the Northbridge community calendar.

He said a female police officer was kicked in the face during the “horrendous” attack.

“These young persons need to know that that behaviour is not tolerated,” he said.

“There will be repercussions for their actions, and we will be knocking on their door in the very near future.”

“It’s not a Northbridge incident. That doesn’t occur in this area so it’s very foreign to that community. They’re a very law-abiding and safe community.”

Police have urged anyone with information to get in touch as investigations into the matter continue.
