“What Happened, Mr Drifter?” Reckless acts damage two Mosman parks.

Two of Mosman’s prized green spaces have been damaged by separate skylarking incidents in the past week.

Two of Mosman’s most used public spaces have been damaged in recent weeks – one by circle work, the other by thoughtless antics during wet weather – prompting calls for greater care and consideration from the community.

At Rosherville Reserve, vandals left a trail of destruction after some late-night doughies on the grass, with deep tyre ruts carving up the pristine turf. Residents discovered the damage on Sunday morning, with several contacting Mosman Collective in disgust.

Rosherville Reserve has been left needing repair.

“Someone’s treated this place like their personal racetrack,” one local said.

“Someone’s treated this place like their personal racetrack,” one Parriwi Rd resident said. “This is Mosman, not Mount Panorama.”

The reckless act comes as another popular public ground, Allan Border Oval, was also left needing repair after a separate incident during recent wet weather.

To protect the turf cricket wicket, Mosman Council placed a cover over the pitch, only for it to be re-purposed as a makeshift slip-and-slide.

The pitch at Allan Border Oval is needing repair after local kids turned it into a “Slip and Slide”, Council said.

“The resulting weight and pressure from running and sliding on the cover substantially damaged the turf underneath,” Mosman Collective was told.

“Council has since managed to dry out the wicket, with the assistance of subsequent fine weather and use of ‘super sopper’ machinery to do a mop-up and a light roll to level out the surface.”

Both incidents have sparked anger from some in the LGA.

Deep tyre cuts can be seen in the normally pristine grass cover at Rosherville.

It is hoped that the grass cover is still in place under the soil.

“If the turf does not recover, Council will have to re-turf in late August prior to the start of the cricket season,” the spokesperson said.

Both incidents have sparked frustration, with local officials reminding the community that “seemingly harmless fun” can have serious consequences for shared public spaces.
